First Lady Michelle Obama Volunteers on 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance - September 2010
First Lady Michelle Obama joined Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick Corvington and nearly two hundred veterans, active duty service members, retirees and student volunteers in serving together to renovate the Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean, VA. Vinson Hall is supported by the Navy marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation and among its residents are Navy Veterans of the Battles of Pearl Harbor and Midway. Together, they repainted the loading dock’s walls and ceiling, painted the sprinkler system, restained and repaired wood ramps, and repainted and resealed the cement floor. Other volunteers worked together on a gardening project.
The First Lady joined Americans across the country in marking the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by participating in service and remembrance activities.
