U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick A. Corvington joined hunger advocates today at a local nonprofit agency, Bread for the City. Together they issued a call to action to end hunger in America. Secretary Vilsack announced a series of new online tools to increase the number of individuals, organizations, and government agencies actively working to end hunger across the country that can be found at http://www.fns.usda.gov/ech. Corvington announced a commitment by CNCS to support more than 325 AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates who will be expanding participation summer food service programs, developing farmers markets and community gardens, and building the capacity of anti-hunger groups across the country.
