On March 9, 2011, several hundred Howard University students participated in a discussion on the importance of public service with Patrick A. Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), and Aaron S. Williams, Director of the Peace Corps. The event, Impact Your World: A Conversation with Obama Administration Officials on Service, took place at Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel on at Howard University, and was moderated by Bernard L. Richardson, Ph.D., dean of the chapel.
Corvington and Williams described their own careers in public service, and encouraged the students to discover the life-changing and career-enhancing experiences that Peace Corps and AmeriCorps offer to those who serve. With its strong public mission and long history of service to the community, Howard University was a logical place to hold the conversation, as many students shared their own service experiences and aspirations in the interactive dialogue. CNCS and the Peace Corps recently signed an agreement to coordinate recruitment efforts, and Corvington and Williams both highlighted the strong relationship between the agencies and the opportunities for further collaboration.
